We had the privilege of an exclusive interview with top Irish prospect Francy Luzoho. We discuss how he got into boxing by watching his hero Roy Jones Jr, being based in Spain and how he plans to leave no doubts in a potential rematch with Martin Quinn.

FN247:

Tell us a little about your background and what inspired you to first get into boxing?

FL: I’m 24 years old from Dublin, Ireland. An Irish Congolese Boxer with the aim of being the first Black Irish 2x/3x world Champion in different weight classes. I was mad into football starting off until I got injured while playing in school, I tore my quad muscle so I was out for 5/6 months. While trying to recover I was watching a YouTube video on how to improve my game when I stumbled on Roy Jones Jr videos and I fell in love with boxing, to this day he is my favourite fighter of all time.

FN247:

What amateur club did you fight for and what where your highlights as an amateur?

FL: I started out with Arbour Hill from there I boxed for Trinity Boxing club with the Bonneys where I boxed on Katie Taylor’s Show then after I boxed for St Micheals who I won the Celtic Box Cup with. FN247:

You turned pro at a young age - was that always the plan or did you consider staying amateur and aiming for the Olympics?

FL: No not really gotta remember I started boxing at 18 turned pro at 22. Never was a fan of the amateurs, my dream was always to be world champion in the professional ranks just like Roy Jones Jr. FN247:

In October 2018 you made your debut, and rather than fight an import from Bulgaria or Hungary you were matched with 6-1 Sam Jones which you won by very impressive stoppage. What where your thoughts when you found out you would be making your debut against another prospect?

FL I’ll never fight a journeyman unless it’s the toughest journey man out there even so I rather the 50/50 mentality. I’m built like the fighters of old simple but when I found out that I was fighting Sam Jones I was happy especially on my debut, no better way to jump on the scene.

FN247:

In your next fight, again it was another 50/50 against another prospect, this time Martin Quinn. In a fight that could have gone either way you were on the wrong end of a decision. What would you do differently in a rematch and do you think we will see that fight with Quinn again once everything gets back to normal?

FL: What I would do differently in the rematch hmmm knock him the F**k out this time look, that’s boxing sad thing to say but boxing will always be involved in wrong decisions, all you can do is rebuild and go correct it in better fashion which I definitely will do when ever his team reply back to my message and take the fight. FN247:

You have based your training camps in Spain - how did that come about and how do you find life when you are over there?

FL: Gotta thank ( enswell podcast ) for that, he introduced me to my trainer Jonathan O’Brien Williams aka The Thunder Bolt. My life in Canaries Islands, Lanzarote has been the best move for me mentally and physically, can’t get any better training than over there.

FN247:

There are plenty of other prospects coming through in Ireland in and around your weight class. Who do you consider your main rivals for an Irish title and how do you rate them?

FL: There’s a lot but I don’t look at them or overlook anyone what ever God has planned for me whatever fight I see taking me to the next level I will take but the fighters I consider my main rivals are the world class fighters, those are my rivals. FN247:

Finally is there anything you would like to add or a message for the fans?

FL: For my supporters the best is yet to come & I would also like to thank my sponsors:

Aquadreams Atlantic SL Pool and Spa Lanzarote

Ice House Playa Blanca

Marc Shephard & Dave

TricolourBulls Lanzarote
